A Clinical Study on Otogenic Brain Abscess

Abstract
Since the chemotherapy and antibiotics effectively administered for treating acute otitis media, the cases of intracranial complication produced by it have been decreasing in number, practically none in the recent years.
On the other hand, however, in the case of acute otitis media, it seems that the intracranial complication has occurred in rather increasing trend mostly owing to the improper usage of antibiotics and appearence of drug resistant strains of bacteria. Accordingly, symptomatology masked by the given antibiotics reveals atypical picture and prognosis also takes an atypical course as well, thus it. gives a: great difficulty for the early detection of diseases and brings a grave outcome to the certain .cases.
For a year and four months from March 1973 to Feb. 1975, we have experienced in our department, nine cases of otogenic brain abscess, six of temporal lobe abscess and three at cerebellum, and this is the report of clinical findings on these cases along with literature survey.
